Souls Harbor Baptist Church of Marietta, Ohio
Souls Harbor Baptist Church, founded under the visionary leadership of Pastor Joseph Henry, stands as a fundamental, independent, and Bible-preaching church dedicated to soul-winning and missions. The church’s inaugural meeting took place on July 5, 1981, in the garage of Homer Smith. Later that year, on August 9, 1981, they moved into the Stanlyville church building, marking a significant milestone in their growth. As the church expanded, Souls Harbor acquired property at its current location, which marked the commencement of their construction project on December 17, 1982. The first service was held on April 10, 1983, and under the continued guidance of Pastor Henry, the church continued to thrive and grow. In October 1993, Pastor Henry retired from pastoring, leaving behind a legacy of remarkable service for our Lord.
December 1994, the Church called Sam Green as their new Pastor. Under Green’s leadership, the Church experienced significant growth. On April 2, 1995, they broke ground on a new educational wing, which was completed in October 1996 and dedicated to the “Glory of God” and in honor of Joseph Henry. Brother and Ava Henry remained devoted members of Souls Harbor until their passing into Glory.
In the spring of 1997, God appointed a new pastor, Robert E. Hughes. Under his leadership, the church experienced remarkable growth and expansion. Several ministries were established, including Seedline, which produced and distributed John and Romans in various languages worldwide; Senior Saints, a large VBS program; Faith Rides, a motorcycle riding ministry; Ladies Missionary Fellowship Group, and many others. As the church continued to thrive, three additional buildings were constructed: the Office & Portico Addition in 1998, a Gymnasium in 2003, and expanded parking lots. The new large auditorium was build occupied in December 2014, along with the Davison mission house. After 25 years of dedicated service, Pastor Hughes retired and became Pastor Emeritus. He and his wife, Elaine, continue to serve the Lord at Souls Harbor Baptist Church.
In April 2025, the Lord brought a new pastor, Douglas Marco, and his wife, Eva, to the church. At the age of 21, Pastor Marco received Christ as his Savior during the Sunday night service at the Tri-County Baptist Church of Northville, Michigan, under the ministry of Pastor Ronald Lucas. Shortly after, he surrendered to God’s call to be God’s servant. Since then, he has pastored, been an assistant pastor, traveled the world as an evangelist and missionary, to the 10/40 Window. This region encompasses countries like the Philippines, Vietnam, India, parts of Africa, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Taiwan, Burma, China, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Oman, Laos, South Korea, and many others. During his mission trips, Pastor Marco has strengthened churches, aided in starting churches, taught soul-winning, held pastor conferences, established Bible schools and seminaries, and shared strategies with national pastors on how to reach the people of their countries. Remarkably, over 10,000 people received Christ as Savior, with more than 1,000 baptized and many called to full-time Christian service.
Thank you for taking the time to look over our website. We would love for you to consider coming by to visit us, and if you are looking for a church home in our area, we would count it a privilege to have you give us a try. We are just an old-fashioned Baptist church that is working very hard to do things according to the Scriptures. Our music is still based upon the hymns and therefore is uplifting and conducive to the moving of the Holy Spirit. Our preaching is alive and vibrant and directly from the Word of God with no reservations in saying “thus saith the Lord.” If you are looking for a church that loves God and loves people, you will find Souls Harbor to be very encouraging and refreshing.
